The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is seeking excellent, experienced candidates for the positions below:

Programme Officer – Media and Good Governance Programme

The ideal candidate must have excellent analytical and writing skills and be familiar with the contemporary political and social context in West Africa.  The candidate must also have a fair knowledge of regional and global media (both traditional and digital) development trends and experience in results-oriented project planning, implementation and reporting.

Responsibilities

The Candidate must excel in his or her abilities to:

  • Write high-quality analytical reports on trends in media development, challenges and prospects within the West Africa region
  • Plan and implement/co-ordinate approved research and media development projects to help improve professional journalism and the media’s role in development
  • Plan and implement approved projects on media and development
  • Propose and develop programme ideas as well as programme concept notes
  • Support advocacy and outreach work of the organisation
  • Effectively represent and articulate the position of the organisation in external engagements

Qualifications

Education: An advanced (Masters or PhD) degree in social science or a related field is required.

Experience: Candidates should have at least five years’ experience in programme or project management, advocacy, research and report writing. Experience in the NGO sector and/or competency in French will be a distinct advantage. A track record of strong writing skills, analysis and report writing will be an advantage.

Programme Officer – Communications

The organisation is looking for a talented, innovative, proactive and a motivated individual with excellent analytical, written and digital communications knowledge and skills to join our team.

Key Responsibilities of the Position

The role requires a person with a track record of innovation and creativity; and a background in reaching out to and engaging with different stakeholders and audience through high-quality written and multi-media content.  The ideal candidate is one with a track record in digital communications and audience engagement. The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Proposing content ideas and working with the relevant staff to produce reports on projects and activities being implemented, for effective outreach and visibility of project activities and outcomes
  • Development and effective deployment of appropriate organisational email newsletter
  • Managing and growing traffic to the organisation’s website
  • Managing and growing the organisation’s social media pages
  • Conducting continuous audience engagement analysis and analysis of web traffic to guide content development and deployment
  • Co-ordinating the production of multimedia content for all digital platforms
  • Generating and discussing content ideas with programme staff, and editing content produced by programme staff;

Key Requirements

  • Advanced (Masters or PhD) degree in Communications, Marketing, Data Science, the social sciences fields or a related field
  • At least five years post-qualification experience as a content marketer, digital engagements/communications officer, an editor with a reputable media organisation (online or print), as a journalist with proven track-record of writing and publishing, or as a development communication professional with a track record of producing quality content in the field of development.
  • Excellent editing skills with the exceptional ability to reduce complex text and material into easy-to-read or listen, engaging content.
  • Experience working with NGOs and/or mainstream media will be a great asset.
  • Ability to communicate in both English and French will be an added advantage.
