The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) is recruiting media monitors for its elections project on Countering Hate Speech and Polarisation Narratives to Foster Democratic Consolidation and Peace in Ghana.
The work of the media monitors will include monitoring, documenting, and reporting incidents of hate speech, incitement, and other narratives that foment polarisation occurring on both traditional media and social media platforms. The monitoring exercise will focus on selected newspapers, radio stations, and social media platforms across the country. Monitoring reports will be published monthly and will name individuals and media organisations that perpetrate polarising narratives. The monitoring will also help track compliance and skills improvement on the part of media organisations that benefit from the skills-training programmes.
The ideal media monitor must have a good knowledge of the media environment, research and data gathering, analysis, and the governance system of Ghana.
Responsibilities
Recruited monitors will be assigned to media houses and required to:
- Monitor content on assigned media houses or social media platforms.
- Submit daily reports to the MFWA.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must:
- Have at least a degree in media studies, communication, political science, social science, or a related field.
- Be able to speak and write English fluently and at least one local language.
- Have relevant experience in data gathering, media monitoring, or research-related projects
- Be social media savvy
