The Gambia Press Union Launches Affiliate Support Programme to Improve Advocacy

The Gambia Press Union (GPU) has launched an Affiliate Support Programme to improve its advocacy work for the media, its members and democracy in The Gambia.

The programme launched on February 29, 2020 is part of a 30-month project the Union is co-implementing with Gambia Media Support (GAMES), a Denmark-based non-profit organisation set up to support the Gambian media.

The Affiliates Support Programme  is intended to strengthen the six formally registered affiliates of the GPU on crucial areas such as policy formulation, organisational administration, financial management, fundraising, and communication and advocacy.

The six beneficiary affiliates under this program are Women Journalists Association of The Gambia, Young Journalists Association of The Gambia, Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia, Network Agricultural Communicators and Human Rights Network The Gambia

Speaking at the launch, Pa Modou Faal, head of GPU Board Programmes Committee, said the GPU is ever dedicated to supporting its affiliates through capacity building and financial support. He urged affiliates to take full advantage of the opportunity.

Sheriff Bojang Jr, president of GPU, encouraged affiliates to work effectively towards their objectives so the GPU’s work will be much easier.
