Toborie Ovuorie is a senior investigative journalist who has worked with a number of media houses in Nigeria including the PREMIUM TIMES and the Nations Newspaper. She won the Wole Soyinka awards for her investigative exposes in 2012 and 2013.

Toborie’s 5-part story, titled, “How Nigeria ‘Kills’ Children Living With HIV” was adjudged the best reporting for the Human Rights Category. The story discloses the extreme discrimination and stigmatisation against children of school-going age living with HIV across seven states in Nigeria. The report also reveals how the basic right to education of the children living with HIV are denied and violated, despite an existing HIV/AIDS anti-discrimination law which was passed by the Nigeria government in 2015 to protect the rights and dignity of people living with the virus.
