Anjali (Anji) Manivannan is a pro bono lawyer in the Freedom of Expression and International Criminal Justice Advocacy programmes at the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). She holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from New York University School of Law, which provided a grant through its prestigious Arthur Helton Global Human Rights Fellowship for her to work with the MFWA from September 2014-September 2015. After her fellowship, Ms Manivannan has continued to provide her expertise to the MFWA. She is currently based in New York City.
Ms Manivannan has previously researched for Human Rights Watch; People’s Watch, an NGO in Tamil Nadu, India; Badil Resource Centre for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, an NGO in Bethlehem in the West Bank; and for former U.N. Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, Radhika Coomaraswamy. She also has several years of advocacy experience in human rights in Sri Lanka.
